Truck crash at Athenree Gorge detour in place

A crash involving a fully laden log truck has closed a section of State Highway 2 (SH2) at Athenree Gorge, the NZ Transport Agency says a short detour is in place while they remove the truck.

The detour in place is via: Waihi Beach Road, Wilson Road, Seaforth Road, Emerton Road and Athenree Road back to SH2.

The truck driver is in a serious condition after his fully laden logging truck rolled on the highway near the old Athenree Pancake House.

The removal operation which started at 3pm is expected to take up to 3 hours.

Drivers are advised to allow an additional 10 minutes to journey times. The NZ Transport Agency thanks motorists in advance for their patience.
