Traffic is now using two lanes of State Highway 73 (SH73) in Christchurch in the Brougham Street area after the highway was closed for just over six hours following fatal crash involving a truck and a car earlier this morning.
NZTA Highways Operations Manager Peter Connors say a lane in each direction is operating and is easing traffic flows through the area, after some congestion during peak hour traffic this morning when motorists had to use detours.
Mr Connors said even though two lanes of the highway are working there are speed restrictions and some diversions in place. The aim is to have all the lanes of the highway open by mid afternoon, but the exact timing depends on when police crash investigators finish their work.
