Two West Coast highway projects from Monday – near Hokitika and Jacksons

|

Two West Coast highway resurfacing projects will affect road users from this Monday, 8 March – one for a few hours in the evening, one for several days.

Taipo River Bridge, SH73 – four hours closure, one opening, to midnight

The Taipo River single lane bridge, between Jacksons and Kumara on SH73, will be closed from 8 pm to midnight so contractors can repair the approach. The bridge will open at 10 pm to allow waiting traffic through.

Drivers can take the Lake Brunner Road via Inchbonnie and Moana to Greymouth, but this will add 35 minutes to the journey south of Greymouth.

Arahura roundabout north of Hokitika, SH6

The Arahura roundabout, which includes a rail crossing point, is being resurfaced from Monday, 8 March to Wednesday, 17 March, 6 am to 6 pm, weekdays only.

Traffic will be reduced to single lane with delays up to ten minutes for Stop/Go and traffic light management. Most delays will be much shorter than ten minutes, says Moira Whinham, Maintenance Contract Manager for Waka Kotahi on the West Coast.

In the event of wet weather, this project could be pushed out or postponed.

Waka Kotahi thanks all drivers and road users for taking care around our road crews while they complete these summer maintenance jobs ahead of the coming winter.
