UPDATE on Luggate (Red) Bridge repairs and maintenance, Queenstown Lakes District, SH8A

|

Work on this bridge has been going well so far with the programmed maintenance work to the timber deck.

However, our contractors have discovered that some additional work should be done before the busy spring and summer period. With the school holidays starting in just a week’s time it has been decided to complete the current section by working this Friday night also, then carry out tidy up work next week during the day, with delays of up to 10 minutes for bridge users.

Motorists can now expect closures for repairs and maintenance between the hours of 7pm to 6am tonight, Thursday 28th and tomorrow evening, Friday 29th June, and just minor day time delays for parts of next week.

The scaffold on the bridge will now stay until the works are completed after the school holidays, so the previously advised day closure on Monday 9th July will now be put forward to a later date to be advised.

Once the school holidays are over work is expected to recommence from Monday 23rd July where we expect further night time closures for up to 7 more nights work.

“We appreciate the allowance made by the public in adding an extra ten minutes to their journey time via the detour,” says John Jarvis, Senior Network Manager, NZ Transport Agency. “And we thank them for their patience while this important maintenance work on the Red Bridge is completed.”
