Waikato Expressway south of Rangiriri - lane closure this week

Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency advises motorists that essential safety work taking place on State Highway 1 Waikato Expressway south of Rangiriri this week will see traffic down to one lane.

Due to the adverse weather forecast tomorrow, Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency advises motorists that traffic will be down to one lane on State Highway 1 Waikato Expressway south of Rangiriri on Wednesday 16 November now – not Friday 11 November as previous stated.

This project involves working at height and with electrical circuits. Given the forecast is for strong winds and heavy rain, the decision has been made to postpone for safety reasons.

Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency advises motorists that traffic will be down to one lane on State Highway 1 Waikato Expressway south of Rangiriri on Friday 11 November now – not tomorrow as previous stated. The additional day is needed for essential safety work.

1 November 2022 update:

Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency advises motorists that an additional day is needed for essential safety work, which is taking place on State Highway 1 Waikato Expressway south of Rangiriri. Traffic will also be down to one lane on Friday 4 November 2022.


25 October 2022:

From Wednesday 26 October until Friday 28 October, a 500 metre section of the southbound left-hand lane on the Expressway will be closed.

This is to allow for electrical and other essential work to take place in order for safety warning signs to be installed later in the year.

These efforts are all about ensuring this part of the Expressway meets the safety requirements to have a speed limit of 110km/h.
