Wellington SH1 now open south and northbound - update 8.30pm

|

The NZ Transport Agency is advising motorists that State Highway 1, the main route from Wellington to the Kapiti Coast, is now open to one lane both south and northbound with speed restrictions. Motorists should exercise caution and drive to the conditions, watching speeds and following distances.

As the backlog clears this evening, motorists may experience some delays tonight.

Due to severe flooding and slips the following roads will be closed overnight:

  • State Highway 58 from State Highway 1 at Paremata to Haywards Interchange at State Highway 2
  • Grays Road (local road)
  • Paekakariki Hill Road (local road)

“The roads aren’t going to be 100 percent tomorrow. Some parts of the network have suffered significant damage and will require further assessment to identify permanent repairs, and motorists may continue to experience delays to their journeys. We want to thank motorists for their ongoing patience and understanding during this significant weather event which had a major impact on our roads,” Mark Owen, Regional Performance Manager, NZ Transport Agency says.

“We continue to advise people to check for updates on our website and via our social media so that they can make informed decisions about their journeys.”

People can call 0800 44 44 49 for updates and the Transport Agency’s website(external link) and social media accounts will be also updated as more information is available.
