Wellington SH2 reopened northbound to one lane: NZ Transport Agency media statement - update 3pm

|

The NZ Transport Agency is advising that one lane northbound on State Highway 2 between Ngauranga and Petone will be opening with speed restrictions at around 3pm.

This will be a staged opening, allowing northbound traffic on to State Highway 1 first, and then a small diversion will be put in for traffic coming from the Ngauranga Gorge. One lane is open southbound. Motorists should expect that their journey may take longer than usual, and should be patient, continue to exercise extra care, drive to the conditions and watch speed and following distances.

While State Highway 1 remains closed from Mackays Crossing, the closure point has been moved from Paremata to Steyne Avenue at Plimmerton. Motorists should be prepared for congestion at Mana.

Due to severe flooding and slips the following roads are still closed:

  • SH58 from Paremata to Haywards Interchange at SH2
  • Greys Road
  • Paekakariki Hill Road
  • SH1 between Mackays Crossing and Steyne Avenue at Plimmerton – closed northbound and southbound.

There are slips and surface flooding along State Highway 1 between Johnsonville and Porirua so if travel is necessary on this route, motorists should take extra care, watch following distances and speed.

People can call 0800 44 44 49 for updates and the Transport Agency’s website (external link)(external link)and social media accounts will be also updated as more information is available.
