Wet weather delays Awapuni Road upgrade

|

Tairawhiti Roads is advising that, due to wet weather, the start date for the State Highway 35 Awapuni Road upgrade will be delayed until the weather improves.

Works were originally planned to start on Monday 1 April, lasting for three weeks.

“Work like this is always weather depedendent as wet weather can compromise the quality of the new road surface,” Tairawhiti Roads General Manager Dave Hadfield says.

“The MetService is indicating that wet weather could be around for some time so we’re unable to confirm a new start date at this stage, but we’ll communicate as soon as we know. Please be prepared for works to start at short notice.

“While the start date will be pushed back until we’re confident that there will be a period of good weather conditions, the schedule of works that has been delivered to residents and businesses remains the same.

“We thank locals for their patience throughout this project,” Mr Hadfield says.

Once works start, motorists should avoid Awapuni Road if possible, or allow extra time for their journey with delays of up to 30 minutes expected due to stop/go traffic management.

The upgrade is fully funded by the 2018-21 National Land Transport Fund.
