The NZ Transport Agency has immediately suspended vehicle inspector Yaea Wongchiu and his Auckland-based inspecting organisation Gee J Auto Services & Tyres, which is now closed.
The NZ Transport Agency’s investigation into Gee J Auto Services & Tyres began after it was tipped off by Police officers who had pulled over a modified car in Porirua and noted that it had received a WoF in Auckland just two hours earlier.
A detailed investigation by the Transport Agency found evidence of WoFs being issued to vehicles without inspection.
Compliance action is underway against the vehicle inspector and inspecting organisation. If further investigation finds criminal activity, we will refer it to Police or other government agencies as appropriate.
The Transport Agency will also be contacting around 320 vehicle owners with a current WoF from Gee J Auto Services & Tyres to let them know that their vehicle may have been incorrectly passed and advise them to attain another WoF inspection.
The NZ Transport Agency has records of all WoF inspections. Should we have any concerns about the inspection and certification of your vehicle’s WoF we will contact you directly by both phone and letter, using the personal information recorded on the vehicle owner’s file.
If you have moved address or changed contact number in the past year and have not updated this, please do so by phoning the Transport Agency on 0800 108 809.
