Work underway to improve walking and cycling on SH50

Work is getting underway this week to improve safety for people walking and cycling along State Highway 50/Hyderabad Road (SH50).

Waka Kotahi NZ Transport is starting work on the walking and cycling path on SH50 between Battery Road and Prebensen Drive roundabout.

“Work will include the construction of a pedestrian and cyclist shared path, level crossing upgrades and new road markings to improve safety and efficiency for all road users,” Senior Project Manager Derek McDermott says.

“Once the work is complete, pedestrians and cyclists will have a much safer journey along this busy route.”

The work is being done in three stages, with the first stage expected to be completed in February 2022. During this first stage, at times there will be stop/go traffic management and a temporary speed restriction in place.

Motorists are advised to adhere to the speed limit and take care when travelling through the worksite, for the safety of everyone using the road, including workers.

Plan ahead for a safe, enjoyable journey. Keep up to date with:
