NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi (NZTA) advises that work will ramp up from next week to complete repairs across Coromandel’s state highway network, which was extensively damaged by last summer’s extreme weather events.
State Highway 1 has reopened earlier than expected today between Taupō and Tūrangi and remains fully open tomorrow, Waitangi Day, under a reduced speed limit due to the unsealed surface.
Work will begin later this week to make a dangerous section of State Highway 1 East Taupō Arterial safer, with the construction of median barriers at the Centennial Drive interchange.
State Highway 1 travellers will see some major changes as work continues to bring the Ngāruawāhia section of the Waikato Expressway up to 110km/h standard.

Flexible median safety barriers will be installed along the middle of State Highway 2 from Spur Avenue over the Bayfair flyover as part of the NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi (NZTA) Baypark to Bayfair Link (Bay Link) project from Sunday 21 January 2024.
