Nearly four years of manoeuvring through traffic cones for users of State highway 73 (SH73) Curletts Road in Christchurch end this Tuesday, 3 June with the opening of clearways, to ease congestion and improve traffic flows along this busy road.
Tidal surges that closed State highway 1 (SH1) on the Kaikoura Coast this afternoon, has prompted the Transport Agency to close the road at 11pm tonight from Kererengu North of Kaikoura and Oaro South of Kaikoura, depending on conditions it’s hoped to reopen the road at 2am.
The NZ Transport Agency is asking motorists to be extra cautious, and farmers to make safety a top priority when moving livestock on the roads on Gypsy Day which falls on June 1, a period when many dairy herds are moved between farms in the region.
Raising awareness of the dangers of driver distraction and educating motorists about the importance of vehicle safety was the focus of a combined NZ Transport Agency and police inspection in Katikati this week.
The Transport Agency has confirmed the timing for next month’s extended closures of the Taramakau road/rail Bridge on State Highway 6 near Greymouth, so safety improvement work can be carried out on the entrances to the bridge.
Major safety improvements are on the way for drivers travelling between Christchurch and the West Coast, with construction now underway on the State Highway 73 (SH73) Mingha Bluff Realignment just east of Arthur's Pass Township.
