The NZ Transport Agency is asking the community for their views on a proposed roundabout at the intersection of State Highway 1 and Elles Road in Invercargill, to increase safety and reduce crashes at this high risk intersection.
Heavy rain in Canterbury created fresh slips on the two roads into Kaikoura yesterday and today, with both roads, Route 70 via Waiau and Mt Lyford, and State Highway 1 south via Cheviot, closed this morning.

Drivers on the Alternate Route between Picton and Christchurch will be detoured to Reefton this morning and possibly this afternoon after a two-truck crash on SH65, the Shenandoah Highway, earlier today. The detour adds another hour-and-a-half to the overall journey.
The NZ Transport Agency says a crash on the Auckland Harbour Bridge has been cleared and all lanes are now open, however there is still heavy congestion in the area.
