On Friday 20 May, Waka Kotahi joined our partners Hōkai Nuku to bless the Arawhiti ki Ōkahu viaduct and artworks as part of opening the southern connection of Ara Tūhono which will give drivers a beautiful new way to move to SH1.
Waka Kotahi is urging motorists in Auckland to plan ahead and expect delays with an extended 14-hour full closure of the Southern Motorway (SH1) between Papakura and Drury this weekend from 7pm Saturday night to 9am Sunday morning.

Waka Kotahi’s Auckland System Management (ASM) alliance is teaming up with the Pūhoi to Warkworth motorway project team to co-ordinate a traffic switch near the Johnstone Hill Tunnels with a scheduled overnight motorway maintenance closure. The ASM looks after the maintenance of the Auckland State Highway network.
