As colder nights become the norm, we are preparing to roll out the winter road maintenance programme. Given the weather-related delays we experienced at the start of 2023, some of our summer projects continue, along with final road resurfacing works across the Waikato & Bay of Plenty region.
Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency is hosting two community open days next week to provide an opportunity for people to learn about the safety improvements underway on State Highway 2 between Waihī and Ōmokoroa and ask any questions they may have.
Chip sealing will take place between 9am – 4pm on Wednesday 26 April and Thursday 27 April on the roundabouts at Rea / Tetley roads and Morton Road, as part of the SH2 Waihī to Ōmokoroa safety improvements project.
With many motorists expecting to take an extra day and have another long weekend to encompass Anzac Day and the end of the school holidays, Waikato and Bay of Plenty roads are expected to be busier than normal.
A contract has been awarded and pre-construction planning has begun for a new roundabout at the turn-off to RNZAF Base Ohakea between Sanson and Bulls, aimed at preventing deaths and serious injuries on the road.
