Purpose
To seek the Board's approval for funding the implementation of Environment Waikato's Central Business District shuttle service as part of its public transport network in Hamilton City

Resolutions
The NZ Transport Agency Board:
- approves funding for Environment Waikato's CBD shuttle service, at an estimated cost of $349,000 and a funding assistance rate of 50% (NZTA share $174,500) for 2008/2009;
- agrees to fund the CBD shuttle service in future years as part of Environment Waikato's public transport programme, subject to the NZ Transport Agency's maximum share of the gross cost of the service in any year not exceeding 35.5%;
- approves the farebox recovery practise/methodology as set out in the Funding issues section of this paper for use for future applications of the same nature, should they be received, until the NZ Transport Agency develops its farebox recovery policy, at which time the policy will take precedent;
- notes that the Chief Executive will bring a paper back to the Board on a generic farebox recovery policy;
- notes the reasons for this decision are as set out in the Reasons for recommendation section; and
- agrees to take Board paper 09/03/0159 out of Committee when the Board has published the notice of decision.
Reason for the decision
The assessment profile for this activity has been determined as being of high seriousness and urgency, high effectiveness and medium efficiency.
The service contributes to LTMA objectives of assisting economic development by supporting the town centre concept and addressing traffic congestion issues, improving safety and security by providing a safe travel option and Improves access and mobility for bus users.
We confirm that the matters in sections 20(2) and 20(5) of the LTMA have been satisfied, and that the matters in section 20(3) have been taken into account.
