Reason for the decision

The assessment profile for this activity has been determined as being of Medium seriousness and urgency, Medium effectiveness and High efficiency.

The project will contribute the purpose and objectives of the LTMA in providing a safer state highway environment and, in conjunction with Stage 1 Warkworth Improvements, assisting economic development by reducing continued deterioration of travel times and trip reliability on SH1, a critical route between Auckland and Northland.

This project and other improvements north of Auckland will probably induce land use and travel which would reduce the solution's sustainability; ultimately, further road based solutions are likely, including a bypass around Warkworth.

It is confirmed that the matters in sections 20(2) and 20(5) of the LTMA have been satisfied, and that the matters in section 20(3) have been taken into account.
