In the 2018–21 NLTP, $62 million of land transport projects have been approved for funding in the Hastings district. This includes almost $9.5 million of funding in the latest prioritisation round for local road and Regional improvements and walking and cycling projects. Bridge improvements to enable High Productivity Motor Vehicles use of the roading network has been approved, along with LED street lighting upgrades and completion of the Whakatu Arterial Link. Under the Regional improvements Activity class, further bridge strengthening will be completed to cater for 50MAX, HPMV and VDAM trucks.

In the 2018–21 NLTP, $25 million of land transport projects have been approved for funding in Napier. This includes an $3.7 million of funding in the latest prioritisation round for Local road improvements and walking and cycling projects in Napier. More than $3.6 million will be spent completing the upgrade of the Watchman Road/Hawke’s Bay Airport intersection and installing LED street lighting throughout the city, and a further $118,000 on implementing the council’s walking and cycling strategy.
