In the 2018–21 NLTP, $390 million of Public transport projects have been approved for funding in the Greater Wellington region. This includes $32 million of funding in the latest prioritisation round for Public transport projects. This will be used for debt servicing on the Matangi trains and rail upgrades, implementation of the real time passenger information system, the National Ticketing Programme, and Palmerston North to Wellington Rail Passenger service.
A further $37 million is likely to be approved for the Wellington city bus hubs and Waterloo depot purchase for park and ride facilities.

The $5.5 million of Local road improvements includes the accelerated rollout of LED street lighting, seismic strengthening of Northland Tunnel, road resilience improvements at Ngaio Gorge/Wadestown and gates/new pedestrian surface at the Tawa Street level crossing.
A further $8 million of work is likely to be funded, including seismic strengthening of the Seatoun Tunnel and work on the Eastern Package and Hutt to CBD Package of walking and cycling projects.
