Purpose of this project

The SH12 Rawene Road intersection is a key gateway for community and tourists visiting Rawene and connecting with communities across the Hokianga harbour, via the ferry.

The recently completed Twin Coast Discovery Route SH12 Rawene to Katui Road business case identified this intersection as a priority for investment.

Works will involve installing a guardrail on the southern side of SH12 and improving the left turn movement into Rawene Road from SH12. As well as this, north to south cyclist movements will be improved with a widened road shoulder, improving access to Rawene and the Hokianga ferry.

Benefits

Upgrading the intersection will improve the safety of the intersection for all road users. Accessibility will be also improved, making it easier for locals, visitors, and cyclists to get to Rawene town centre and the Hokianga ferry.

As part of the Twin Coast Discovery Route, improvements to this intersection will help to boost tourism and economic opportunity in Northland by providing safe and improved access to the region and between the communities of the Hokianga.
