Project introduction

We want to make your roads safer for everyone who uses them. There’s been a high number of crashes on SH35. We want to make sure that speeds are safe and right for this road, so we’re reviewing the current speed limits.

What we know

There are many different users on this stretch of state highway, especially during holiday periods when there is a big increase in the number of people in the area, including tourists, cyclists, pedestrians, and holiday makers. This can create safety issues for everyone.

There have been 147 crashes on this 68 km stretch of road in the last ten years (2010-19). Three people died, and nineteen people have been seriously injured.

This initial engagement with the community has now finished. We’ll use the feedback you provided to help us consider what speed limits are best for these roads, and then formally consult with you on any new speed limits we propose.

How speed reviews work

More information about speed and the speed review process is available on the Speed Review Programme webpage.
