Applications for resource consent were lodged with and publicly notified by Horizons Regional Council in March 2020.
Due to the complexities of this project and the importance for the local communities of getting the highway built without delay, Horizons granted Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency’s request for resource consent application to go straight to the Environment Court.
This decision allowed for a timely decision-making programme, while enabling local communities and stakeholders to engage in the process.
The project’s application for resource consent for the project’s major works was heard at an Environment Court hearing on 24 August 2020. The hearing was set down for two weeks but due to the general agreement of iwi and stakeholders on consent conditions, was concluded in a day.
