Audio tactile profiled roadmarkings

This specification and guidance notes apply only to audio tactile profiled (ATP) roadmarkings. These roadmarkings include rumble strips and provide all three of audio and tactile (vibratory) and visual information to road users. ATP roadmarkings used on the state highway must be on the current list of type approved markings. ATP markings that have current approval in terms of M/24 for use on state highways are listed in M/24 notes.

Pavement marking

This specification and guidance notes apply to the reflectorised and non-reflectorised marking of sealed and paved road surfaces in paint, thermoplastic and other types of roadmarking materials. Thermoplastic application is limited to machine screeding, machine spray and machine extrusion. Paint shall be applied by machine spray methods only. Not recommended for use on state highways - please use P/22 Specification for reflectorised pavement marking.

Quality assurance level contracts

Q/3 Normal QA level contract specification covers the quality assurance requirements for contracts which have been assessed at the normal quality assurance level. Q/4 High QA level contract covers the quality assurance requirements for contracts which have been assessed at the high quality assurance level. Both specifications should be applied to all contracts on state highways which involve road construction, road maintenance, and structures. The guideline notes covers the roles of the client, consultant and contractor in the application of quality assurance provisions in roading contracts.

Vegetation control

This specification sets out the requirements and standards for the control of roadside vegetation on state highways.

P46 stormwater specification

This specification sets out the requirements for the design, construction and operation of all stormwater improvement projects. It is anticipated that the standard stormwater specification is a starting set of specifications and may be adapted to address local issues and the scope of the project.     

Internally illuminated pavement markers

This specification covers size, function and performance requirements for self illuminating raised pavement markers which are attached directly to the road surface with or without stubs inserted into the pavement. The markers may stand proud of the road surface or be set flush with it. This specification is based on advice from pavement marker manufacturers and overseas practice, and consultation has been undertaken with interested parties in New Zealand. The 2013 version of M29 has been updated to better define photometric and other requirements for testing.

Corrugated plastic pipe subsoil drain construction

This specification and guidance notes refer to the use of perforated corrugated plastic pipe of up to 110 mm nominal outside diameter in subsoil drains under light duty conditions, eg for use in agricultural land, playing fields and lightly loaded or load protected sections of the highway environment. The drains described in F/5 may be used for road or civil engineering works not subjected to heavy vehicular traffic.

Benkelman beam deflection measurements

This test procedure covers the determination of the rebound deflection of a pavement under a standard wheel load and tyre pressure, with or without temperature measurements.

High performance roadmarking

This specification and accompanying guidance notes set out the requirements for high performance roadmarkings for road safety. This specification applies to specialised pavement markings installed on roads with a traffic volume of > 5,000 v/day and where a traffic safety strategy has identified the need for improved delineation.

Determination of retroreflectivity

This specification describes the procedure for determining the retroreflectivity of roadmarking material. A retroreflectometer shall be used having 30 metre geometry, i. e. an entrance angle of 88. 76°, and an observation angle of 1. 05°. The retroreflectometer shall be calibrated against national or international traceable standards.
