Technical advice note

The Transport Services Technical advice note (TAN) is a formal memo which keeps all relevant people up to date and aware of any new releases, interim acceptances, changes and updates to technical information, specifications, legislation, etc in relation to highway projects.

This is being used in place of the email memos you may have been receiving from the technical teams across the Transport Services group.

The Technical advice note series should be seen as the one source of truth associated with changes to our technical requirements.

It is sent to registered users, both internal and external to Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency.

#19-04 Launch of the Standard safety intervention toolkit for the Safe Networks Programme

This notice advises that the draft Standard safety intervention toolkit is available to assist project managers to more easily apply the Safe Network Programme funding model. The draft toolkit has been released, will come into effect from 14 March 2019 and should be applied to all works in the Safe Network Programme.

#19-03 Specification for design, construction and maintenance of cycling and shared path facilities

This notice advises that the procedures for managing the design, construction and maintenance of cycling and shared path facilities have been revised. The new standard applies from February 2019 and should be used by all staff carrying out physical works in the areas identified on the state highway network facilities map.

This notice advises that the procedures for managing accidental discoveries of archaeological heritage finds have been revised. The new standard applies from February 2019 and must be used by all staff developing new physical works contracts.

#18-05 Revision of the New Zealand Transport Agency Standard P45:2019 accidental archaeological discovery protocol (ADP)

#17-20 Updated Risk management practice guide (minimum standard Z/44)

#17-19 M7 - 2017 pilot specification for approved roadmarking products

The M7 specification sets out the requirements materials must meet to be included on the list of approved roadmarking products for use on state highways. This is based on the material conforming to a set of laboratory tests and meeting performance requirements assessed by an on road trial.
