Specifications

Structural design and construction of flexible unbound pavements (B3)

Published: 2000

This specification and guidance notes sets out design, maintenance and performance requirements of the surfacing and unbound flexible pavement layers for the construction of new pavements and re-construction of existing pavements.

Specification for the manufacture and construction of plant mixed modified pavement layers (B7)

Published: 2012

This specification applies to the manufacture and construction of plant mixed aggregates to produce grader or paver laid pavement layers using cement, lime, bitumen emulsion or foamed bitumen. This specification shall apply to the construction of modified sub-base or basecourse layers.

Specification for the manufacture and construction of plant mixed modified pavement layers (B7)

Supply of aggregate by weight (G2)

Specification and guidance notes for the supply of aggregate by weight. These conditions apply when the supply of aggregate is a separate contract item and the quantity for payment purposes is specified as the loose volume in delivery trucks.

Supply of aggregate by weight (G2)

Basecourse aggregate (M4)

Published: 2004

This specification and guidance notes set out requirements for basecourse aggregate for use on state highways and other heavily trafficked roadways. M/4 is the reference or standard specification for primary basecourse for heavy duty use in flexible pavements with thin surfacings. The major changes were published on April 2006.

Unbound road base and sub-base aggregates evaluation (M22)

Published: 2000

These notes provide guidance for engineers to aid in their decision to reject or accept a material proposed for use as basecourse or sub-bases used on state highways and other roadways constructed in accordance with TNZ B/3 performance based specification for structural design and construction of flexible unbound pavements (provisional) (2000).

Benkelman beam deflection measurements (T1)

This test procedure covers the determination of the rebound deflection of a pavement under a standard wheel load and tyre pressure, with or without temperature measurements.

Benkelman beam deflection measurements (T1)

Estimation of the density of compacted aggregate layers by direct transmission (T23)

The T23 method for the estimation of the density of compacted aggregate layers by direct transmission is used to quantify the vertical uniformity of aggregate compacted in a pavement layer.

Estimation of the density of compacted aggregate layers by direct transmission (T23)

It is particularly applicable to aggregates stabilised in-situ in accordance with:
TNZ B/05 In-situ stabilisation of modified pavement layers specification (2008).

Use of reclaimed tyre rubber in asphalt (TM6001)

Published: 2006

This report identifies possible methods and constraints on the use of waste tyre rubber in asphalt in New Zealand. There are two main methods: Wet process - ground tyre rubber (GTR) is first combined with the asphalt binder and can produce asphalt with superior properties; and Dry process - the GTR is used to replace a fraction of the aggregate and does not appear to offer any performance enhancement.
