Specifications

Structural design and construction of flexible unbound pavements (B3)

This specification and guidance notes sets out design, maintenance and performance requirements of the surfacing and unbound flexible pavement layers for the construction of new pavements and re-construction of existing pavements.

Specification for in-situ stabilisation of bound sub-base layers (B6)

Published: 2011

Stabilisation of pavement layers has a long history in New Zealand. Stabilisation is becoming more common as increasing traffic volumes and higher axle load limits are driving the need for pavements that are more robust than traditional unbound pavements. Equally in areas where top quality aggregates are hard to justify/find – these processes can provide economically viable alternatives. This specification applies to the in-situ stabilisation of granular pavement layers to produce a bound sub-base layer using cement or a blend of cement and lime.

Specification for the manufacture and construction of plant mixed modified pavement layers (B7)

Published: 2012

This specification applies to the manufacture and construction of plant mixed aggregates to produce grader or paver laid pavement layers using cement, lime, bitumen emulsion or foamed bitumen. This specification shall apply to the construction of modified sub-base or basecourse layers.

Published: 2012

This specification applies to the manufacture and construction of plant-mixed aggregates to produce grader or paver laid bound sub-base layers using cement.

Supply of aggregate by weight (G2)

Specification and guidance notes for the supply of aggregate by weight. These conditions apply when the supply of aggregate is a separate contract item and the quantity for payment purposes is specified as the loose volume in delivery trucks.

Sub-base aggregate (M3)

Published: 1986

Guidance notes are provided as there is no standard TNZ M/3 Specification for sub-base aggregate. The variety of satisfactory materials is too wide to set a rational standard specification and custom written specifications must be used that match the design of each individual project. These notes set out the recommended format of the sub-base specification and minimum requirements.

Unbound road base and sub-base aggregates evaluation (M22)

These notes provide guidance for engineers to aid in their decision to reject or accept a material proposed for use as basecourse or sub-bases used on state highways and other roadways constructed in accordance with TNZ B/3 Performance based specification for structural design and construction of flexible unbound pavements (provisional) (2000).

Benkelman beam deflection measurements (T1)

This test procedure covers the determination of the rebound deflection of a pavement under a standard wheel load and tyre pressure, with or without temperature measurements.

Procedures for design and indirect tensile strength testing of modified and bound pavement materials (T19)

T19 specification sets out procedures for determining an optimised blend of aggregate and binders for the stabilisation of pavements.
