From October 2024 to March 2025, we are undertaking road rebuilds at 5 different sites on State Highway 3 (SH3) between Nukumaru and Pātea. The 5 sites are:
Rebuilding the road is important to maintain its reliability and longevity.
We are also undertaking reseals in various locations along this section of SH3 this maintenance season. These minor works will take 1-2 days to complete and involve delays of no more than 5 minutes. The team onsite will speak with you if access to your property is impacted by these works.
The rebuilds at SH3 Waitōtara No. 1 and SH3 Whenuakura are now complete.
The rebuild at SH3 Nukumaru is now underway with SH3 Moumahaki expected to start on 3 February. Work at both sites is expected to be complete by late March.
SH3 Waitōtara No. 2 is due to start in February.
This work forms part of the government’s $2.07 billion investment into road and drainage renewal and maintenance across 2024-27 via the State Highway Pothole Prevention fund.
During the rebuilds stop/go traffic management with a temporary speed limit will be in place. Delays of up to 10 minutes are possible at peak times.
Traffic through the sites will be carefully managed to keep delays to a minimum.
Outside of work hours, the sites will be open to 2 lanes with temporary speed limits still in place.
It is important to follow the temporary traffic management in place and adhere to all speed restrictions in place for the safety of road users and crews alike.
Speeding over a freshly sealed road can damage the new seal, lifting and flicking stones from the road that can, in turn, damage nearby vehicles or your own.
To minimise the risk of damage to both vehicles and the new seal, it is crucial that road users adhere to all temporary speed restrictions in place.
We appreciate your patience while we complete this necessary work.
