Introduction

The process of cycling network planning involves many steps in order to select the best combination of routes and facilities, and create an implementation plan that stands up to critical assessment from a number of angles. The following sections of the CNG cover:

  • how to assess cycle demand and identify cycle route options
  • considering alternative ways to satisfy the needs of the different people who will cycle, and other road users within the context of the ONRC and Network operating plans
  • methods of evaluation, such as multi-criteria analysis
  • cycling network maps and plans
  • prioritising cycle network implementation
  • monitoring and reporting
  • community engagement and consultation.
