You may have a few staff who ride to work (at least occasionally), but your facilities are minimal, or unplanned and ad-hoc.

You may be looking to ‘do more’ either in response to staff requests; because it’s the ‘right thing to do’; as part of a workplace wellbeing or sustainability initiative; or another reason (e.g. new cycleways close to your workplace).

If you’re a larger organisation (or really serious!), you may also want to develop a detailed workplace cycling plan.

What next?

You’ve chosen the right section if your workplace has made a good start on providing for people on bikes (i.e. you’ve done most of the things in the first list below).

  • What to do next?
    • Bike parking – easily accessible and visible bike parking bays for customers
    • Bike storage – secured access for staff and visitors
    • Lockers (for gear)
    • Support national and local workplace cycling events
    • Sign up to the Aotearoa Bike Challenge(external link) (annual bike month in February)
    • Establish a bicycle user group
    • Bike-buddy system
    • Provide copies of essential resources (e.g. maps, road code)
    • Have a workplace cycling advocate/co-ordinator (or equivalent)
