Changes to driving conditions in Whangarei

|

The NZ Transport Agency (NZTA) is reminding drivers of the upcoming changes this weekend to a key intersection in Whangarei as part of the city’s State Highway 1 (SH1) upgrade.

The intersection of SH1/ SH14 and Maunu Road will be significantly changed with a number of turns being closed from 10pm, Sunday 14 July, until April next year.

The changes from 14 July until April 2014 are:-

  • The signalised right turn from SH1, northbound into Maunu Road will be temporarily closed.  Drivers heading northbound on State Highway 1 that want to turn into Maunu Road should consider taking the Tarewa Road or Central Avenue intersections on State Highway 1.
  • The signalised right turn from Maunu Road into SH1, northbound will be temporarily closed.  Drivers heading westbound on Maunu Road that want to turn right into State Highway 1, Northbound, should consider taking the Maunu Road and Central Avenue intersection.
  • The non- signalised left turn from SH1, southbound into Maunu Road will be temporarily closed.  Drivers heading southbound on State Highway 1 that want to turn left into Maunu Road should consider taking the State Highway 1 and Central Avenue intersection.

Separate to the SH1 improvement project, the Transport Agency  also reminds drivers that the Kamo bypass  on SH1 in the city will be closed this weekend for maintenance work. This closure will start at 7pm on Friday (12 July) and will continue until 5am the following Monday (15 July).
