SH3 will be reduced to one lane with stop/go traffic control in place at the Princess Street intersection in Waitara from next Monday (17 April).
Stormwater works will enable the next stage of construction on the Princess Street roundabout and pedestrian underpass to begin in May.
These works will take approximately three weeks and will see crews install infrastructure to take stormwater from the southern side of the intersection through to the stormwater pipe that was laid along almost a kilometre of SH3 last year.
Stop/Go traffic management will be in place on SH3 from just south of the Princess Street intersection, through to the other side of the intersection.
A 30km/h temporary speed limit will be in place along this section of road and road users should allow for delays of up to 10 minutes.
There will be no access to SH3 to or from Princess Street West (Waitara side) during these works and road users should use Bayly Street or Nelson Street to travel to and from Waitara during this time. A diagram of the detour is below.
Access to and from Princess Street East (Tikorangi side) will remain open.
Safe crossing opportunities will be provided for pedestrians and cyclists crossing SH3 from Princess Street.
Crews will work Monday to Friday between the hours of 7am and 5.30pm and at times crews may need to work at night. If night work is needed, residents and road users will be advised in advance.
We know these delays will be frustrating, but we want to thank all road users and residents for their patience and understanding.
This week crews will be undertaking works associated with the roundabout works on Armstrong Ave as well as completing earthworks and monitoring at the stormwater treatment swale site in Manukorihi Park.
