SH3 rock fall stabilisation work completed

|

The NZ Transport Agency says mitigation works which involved blasting to stabilise the southern section of the Mangaotaki Bluffs on State Highway 3, near Pio Pio was completed today.

Transport Agency’s Highways Manager, Kaye Clark says that blasting to remove larger rocks which could potentially become unstable and could come down at some point in the future was completed today. The blasting and cleaning work started this morning at 11.00am and was completed by 3.00pm.

This section of road has now reopened to single lane traffic.

“We are now satisfied that the rock face is stable and we are reopening the road. Initially we are opening to single lane traffic, to allow us to do further monitoring before we reopen the road to both lanes, hopefully by late Friday 2 May” says Mrs Clark.

We appreciate motorists’ cooperation during the temporary closure while we work to maintain safety along this route, and we thank everyone for their patience,” says Mrs Clark.
