Average speed cameras check how fast you are driving along a stretch of road. They calculate a vehicle’s speed between 2 cameras.

We're operating our first pair of average speed safety cameras at Matakana Road in Warkworth, Auckland. We're preparing to operate average speed cameras at a further 16 locations, which are at various stages of construction.
In most cases there will be sometime between cameras being installed and us switching them on to enforce.
When we don’t expect to operate cameras for some time we’ll install ‘camera not in use’ signs. We may test the cameras but won’t be enforcing speeding when these signs are in place.
Before we begin operating any set of average speed cameras we’ll install ‘average speed camera area’ signs. The signs may go up before enforcement begins. These signs are there to remind drivers to check their speed and slow down if needed.
