Ask for a safety camera photo

Use this form to request the photo recorded against a safety camera notice issued by NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi (NZTA).

If you've received a notice for a red light camera, you can request the video recorded against the notice:

You can only request a photo if you're: 

• the registered person for the vehicle, or  
• the person named on the notice or someone they've authorised to act on their behalf, or
• an authorised representative of the company or organisation named on the notice. 

Photos may or may not show people inside the vehicle. It depends on the camera angle, and travel direction.

If you're acting on behalf

If the notice was issued to a company or organisation, you must be entitled to complete this form on their behalf. Check with a director or manager if you're not sure.

If the notice is for an individual, make sure they've told us you can act on their behalf. We can't release the photo to you otherwise.

Under section 54 of the Privacy Act 2020, NZTA is sharing the photo with you on the conditions that you're authorised to receive it and, if it contains sensitive or incriminating content, including images of other members of the public or their vehicles, that you don't share it with any other person unless required by law. You must agree to those conditions before we grant you access to the photo.
