Changes to SH1 Mana Esplanade clearway times from 6 April

|

Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency is advising of changes to State Highway 1 Mana Esplanade clearway times, starting Monday 6 April.

“Due to increases in traffic volumes and changes in traffic times, new clearway times will be introduced to help ease congestion along the busy stretch of highway while improving safety,” Regional Transport Systems Manager Mark Owen says.

The new clearway times are:

  SOUTHBOUND NORTHBOUND
Time Change Time Change
Weekdays 6am–9.30am Increases from 3 to 3.5 hours, starting 30 minutes earlier 2.30pm–6pm Increases from 3 to 3.5 hours, starting 1 hour earlier and finishing 30 minutes earlier
Saturdays 10.30am–2pm

Increases from 3 to 3.5 hours, finishing 30 minutes later

10.30am–2pm

Increases from 3 to 3.5 hours. Starting at the same time and finishing 30 minutes later.

Sundays and Public Holidays 2pm–5.30pm Increases from 3 to 3.5 hours, starting 1.5 hours earlier and finishing 1 hour earlier 10.30am–2pm New clearway time

These changes are in accordance with the Environment Court Order which states clearway times cannot exceed 3.5 hours in each direction on any one day.

Heavy commercial vehicles must use the centre lane between Paremata Bridge and Steyne Avenue in both directions at all times, unless turning.

“We encourage motorists to be patient and courteous, and assist heavy vehicles when making their transition to the centre lane. All other vehicles are encouraged to use the centre lane at all times along Mana Esplanade, unless turning,” Mr Owen says.

New electronic and roadside signs will be posted to provide guidance.

The new clearway times will be reviewed following the opening of Transmission Gully.

Plan ahead for a safe, enjoyable journey. Keep up to date with:
