Crash closes State Highway 2, Carterton - update 5.50pm

Drivers in the Wairarapa can expect delays through Carterton following a crash earlier this morning.


Update 5.50 pm

Clean up works are complete, and State Highway 2 through Carterton has reopened to all traffic.

Waka Kotahi wants to thank residents and drivers for their patience during today’s closure.


Update 2.20 pm

State Highway 2 remains closed in Carterton between Broadway and Pembroke Street.  

Clean-up work at the crash site is expected to continue into afternoon/evening peak traffic times.  

Drivers and commuters can expect continuing delays while local detours are in place, and they should plan their travel accordingly.  

The next update will be when the highway reopens.


Update 9.50am

State Highway 2 remains closed through Carterton while clean-up work at this morning’s crash site continues. 

Current estimates are the highway won’t reopen until this afternoon. 

Driver can continue to expect delays until the road reopens.

Drivers in the Wairarapa can expect delays through Carterton following a crash earlier this morning.

The incident was reported around six am after a truck collided with a building in the town.

While local detours are in place, the highway is closed while an engineer assesses damage to the building. At this stage, there is no estimate on when this work will be completed.

Southbound traffic can detour via Broadway, McKenzie Terrace, Pembroke Street, and back onto State Highway 2. The reverse applies for northbound drivers.
