Delays on SH1 with roundabout construction at Pegasus

|

Motorists are being advised of speed restrictions and possible delays on State Highway 1, north of Woodend, from next week as work gets underway building a dual-lane roundabout at the intersection of Pegasus Town and the new Ravenswood Village.

The NZ Transport Agency’s Acting Highway Manager Pete Connors says the roundabout is being built to improve safety and provide better access onto the highway from Pegasus Town and the soon-to-be-developed Ravenswood Village.

“Work will begin next week and be completed in stages. The first stage is the construction, to the west of the existing highway, of new highway approaches, access to Ravenswood Village and the western side of the new roundabout.

“Once this work is completed, traffic will shift to the new road and work will begin constructing the remainder of the roundabout and realigning access to Pegasus Town.”

He says motorists are asked to take extra care travelling through the area while this work is completed over the next four and a half months and to slow down and observe speed restrictions through the works site.

The $1.8 million roundabout is being funded by the developers of Pegasus and Ravenswood.

Mr Connors says when completed, speed through the intersection will be reduced to 70km/h at the new roundabout and will remain 70km/h through to Woodend. North of the roundabout, the speed will be 80km/h through to Waikuku.
