Detour in place for upcoming overnight closure of SH1 in Levin

|

A section of State Highway 1 in the centre of Levin will be closed overnight for 10 nights for road maintenance works.

The resurfacing work, at the intersection of Queen Street and Oxford Street will begin next Wednesday (8 November) and is expected to be complete by Tuesday 21 November. Crews will be onsite between 6pm on Sunday and 6am Friday. There will be no work on Friday and Saturday nights.

A signposted detour will be in place for road users:

  • Northbound traffic will detour down Bath Street to Salisbury Street to Exeter Street before rejoining SH1.
  • Southbound traffic will detour down Tyne Street to Cambridge Street to Liverpool Rail Crossing and then back to SH1.

Waka Kotahi anticipates the detour will add up to five minutes to people’s journeys and we want to thank motorists for their patience while work is carried out to rebuild this section of road. These works are weather dependent and may be postponed at short notice.

Access to local properties will be available throughout these works.

SH1 will remain open for motorists with a temporary speed limit will be in place during the day.

Other upcoming maintenance works in Horowhenua:

  • SH1 – Oxford St: Crews will be working on maintenance of the underlying road structure from 22 November – 5 December. A one-way closure will be in place for southbound traffic, with a detour via Bath Street/Cambridge Street to Liverpool Rail Crossing, from 6pm-6am. The road will remain open for northbound traffic.
  • SH1 – Hokio Beach Rd: Night-time asphalting works are planned from 6 December – 11 December, between 6pm-6am. Stop/ Go will be in place on SH1 with delays likely. A temporary closure of Hokio Beach Road will be in place.
