Driver licensing services re-established for Upper Hutt

Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency is pleased to confirm that driver licensing services will be available in Upper Hutt from next week.

Following the recent withdrawal of driver licensing services from the VTNZ outlet on Fergusson Drive, Waka Kotahi has worked with Upper Hutt City Council to establish a mobile licensing centre at the Upper Hutt Library to ensure driver licensing services can continue to be provided in the city until a permanent new arrangement is completed.

Driver licensing services, including theory testing, licence renewal and licence replacement, will be available from 9.30am–4pm on Fridays (one day a week), starting Friday 31 July.

“We understand the importance of these services to the Upper Hutt community and we’ve worked with the council to put this temporary arrangement in place as soon as possible,” said Hayley Evans, the Waka Kotahi Senior Manager, Systems Integrity. “We are aiming to re-establish more frequent services from a permanent location in Upper Hutt and expect to have this resolved later this year.”

Upper Hutt Mayor Wayne Guppy is delighted with the interim arrangements.

“We know that having these services available is very important to our community. Being in an accessible location means Upper Hutt residents can continue to make use of licensing services,” he says. “I want to thank Waka Kotahi and VTNZ for working with us to implement this interim solution, and we look forward to the more permanent arrangements to come.”
