Eastern Bay of Plenty road works for week beginning 26 April 2021

|

Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency advises road sealing works will take place in multiple locations around the Rotorua, Whakatāne and Ōpōtiki districts over the next week.

The following sites will operate under Stop/Go traffic management with a 30km/h temporary speed limit in place between the hours of 7am-6pm, while work is taking place.

  • State Highway 2 – Edgecumbe and Awakeri
  • State Highway 30 – Rotomā
  • State Highway 30 – Ātiamuri
  • State Highway 35 – Omaio and Maraenui
  • State Highway 36 - Ngongotahā

For a period of at least 24 hours after a site has been sealed, and before it is swept, it continues to operate under a reduced temporary speed limit while we allow vehicles to travel over the seal and help “bed in” the chip and to reduce the risk of chip damaging windscreens. Following this, the site is swept, excess chip is removed, and the temporary speed limit remains in place until line marking has been reinstated (within 48 hours of the site being sealed, weather dependent).

It is important motorists adhere to the relevant temporary speed limits during these works to avoid damage to their vehicles and ensure their safety and that of other road users and road workers.

Other ongoing work

  • SH5 Tarukenga, between Dalbeth Road and Dansey Road
Road reconstruction work continues along this corridor, with chip sealing due to be completed by the end of April.

In the event of bad weather or other unforeseen circumstances, work may be postponed. Visit the interactive Waka Kotahi Journey Planner website for the latest information on roadworks, traffic, road closures and detours to help plan your trip.
