Eastern Bay of Plenty/ Rotorua resurfacing works – beginning Sunday 9 May

|

Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency advises that resurfacing work will take place on State Highway 36 in Ngongotahā, and State Highway 30 in Rotomā, the week beginning Sunday 9 May.

These works are part of the Waka Kotahi road maintenance programme to repair and reseal state highways across the Bay of Plenty to ensure the safety and resilience of the transport network.

  • State Highway 36, Ngongotahā

Work between Wikaraka Street and Hood Street will take place on Sunday 9 May between 6am – 8pm.

During the work, there will be a road closure with a detour in place.

All northbound traffic will be directed from State Highway 36 (SH36) to Taui Street, on to Wikaraka Street and then back onto SH36. Southbound traffic will take the same detour in reverse. This detour route is suitable for heavy vehicles.
  • State Highway 30, Rotomā

Work between Matahi Road and the intersection of State Highway 34 (Kawerau Road) will take place on Monday 10, Tuesday 11, Wednesday 12 and Thursday 13 of May, between 9.00am – 5.00pm.

Stop/Go traffic control will be in place with a 30km/h speed limit.

Due to site width constraints, intermittent road closes of up to 20 minutes will be required, to ensure the safety of our staff and road users. Contractors will be monitoring traffic flow and will be able to make adjustments as necessary. However, motorists should expect delays of up to 30 minutes

Motorists are asked to take extra care when travelling through the site and follow directions of traffic management staff and signage.

In the event of bad weather or other unforeseen circumstances, work may be postponed.

Visit the interactive Waka Kotahi Journey Planner website (journeys.nzta.govt.nz) for the latest information on roadworks, traffic, road closures and detours to help plan your trip.
