Gladstone Road Bridge down to one lane on Wednesday

|

Tairāwhiti Roads is advising road users that Gladstone Road Bridge will be reduced to one lane from 7am to approximately 3pm on Wednesday 16 January while contractors work to install precast concrete balustrades.

Manual traffic controllers will be in place to manage traffic on the bridge while the lane is closed.

“People can expect delays on the bridge and some traffic tail-backs in the surrounding area on Wednesday, and should allow more time for their journeys,” Tairāwhiti Roads General Manager Dave Hadfield says.

“This is the first lane closure on Gladstone Road Bridge this year, following a number of closures last year as our contractors work to widen the bridge to create a shared walking and cycling path, as part of Gisborne’s Urban Cycleways Programme aimed at getting more people on their bikes.

“We expect there will need to be three further lane closures on the bridge as we continue work to deliver this project for the region.

“Our team is working hard to minimise disruption as much as possible and we greatly appreciate the community’s patience.”

The project is scheduled for completion in March 2019.
