Lower North Island/Upper South Island – planned state highway roadworks

|

Important information for drivers:

North Island:

  • Regular monthly tunnel maintenance will be happening on Monday and Tuesday nights. Contractors will work on The Terrace Tunnel on Monday and the Mt Victoria Tunnel on Tuesday. The tunnels will be closed to traffic from 9 pm to 5:30 am. Drivers heading through the city to and from Miramar/Kilbirnie will have to use alternative routes.
  • Drivers using State Highway 2 through the Hutt Valley need to be aware of ongoing resurfacing works. Around 20 nights of works are planned over the next six months. Several sections of the highway have reached the stage in their life cycle where they need a thin layer of specialised asphalt on top of the existing road. The new layer improves surface texture, skid-resistance and water-drainage. To minimise disruption, this work will be done at night. Local road detours will be available.

South Island:

The details below outline the main planned state highway roadworks occurring in the greater Wellington region and the top of the South Island over the coming week (from Saturday, 9 September). Further details about regional state highway conditions and roadworks are also published on our website:

NOTE: Roadworks are dependent on weather and other factors. Bad weather can see work postponed to the next suitable night in the works programme.
