North Island

  • Chip sealing works will be underway at various locations across Wellington and Wairarapa in November. It is essential drivers follow speed limits and obey traffic management when driving through work sites.

South Island

  • Contractors are mowing grass at roundabouts and traffic islands on State Highway 6 through Nelson until 14 November. This will affect roundabouts at Beatson Road, Annesbrook Drive, Quarantine Road, and Link Road. Contractors will carry out the work between 7 pm and 5 am. Temporary speed limits will apply where mowing is being done and short travel delays can be expected.

The details below outline the main planned state highway roadworks occurring in the greater Wellington region and the top of the South Island over the coming week (from Saturday, 28 October).

NOTE: Roadworks are dependent on weather and other factors. Bad weather can see work postponed to the next suitable night in the works programme.

Travellers going through Picton need to be aware of ongoing work on Dublin Street. A closure is in place until approximately March 2025, while a new overbridge and other infrastructure is built. More details can be found on the Marlborough District Council website and on the iRex project website

SH6 Whangamoa Hill, east of Wakapuaka Bridge

  • Daily, 24/7
  • Single lane closure with stop/go and 30 km/h traffic management,
  • A shoulder closure will be in place at night.

  • Expect short travel delays.

SH6 Dellow’s Bluff, Murchison

  • 30 km/h speed restrictions.  Road is open to two lanes
  • Rockfall area

State Highway 60        

SH60 Tākaka Hill Night closures(external link)

  • 29 October to 24 November, Sunday to Thursday 8 pm - 5:30 am
  • Resurfacing, road repairs and general maintenance
  • The road will be opened once each night of the closures. Vehicles travelling over the hill need to be at the Aaron Creek Road closure point by 12:30 am for eastbound travel or at the Riwaka Valley Road closure point by 1 am for westbound travel.  Once queued traffic is clear the road will return to closed until 5:30 am

SH60 Tākaka between Waitapu Road and Haldane Rd (external link)

  • 2 October to 15 November, 7 am – 6 pm

  • Stop/go traffic management with 30km/h temporary speed restrictions
  • Drivers can expect 10-minute delays

SH60 Motueka, Lyndhurst Drive to Parker St
