New guardrail to improve safety on SH1 Schedeways Hill

The NZ Transport Agency is installing a new guardrail on the corner of Schedeways Hill to improve safety for motorists using this part of State Highway 1 between Puhoi and Warkworth.

The bend between Mahurangi West Road and Schollum Access Road has a history of loss of control crashes and the installation of the wire rope barrier on the outside bend will help prevent vehicles leaving the road.

The work is part of the continued investment the Transport Agency is making to improve safety on Northland’s state highways.

Safer and more forgiving roads and roadsides are a key part of the Transport Agency’s Safe System approach to help make roads more forgiving of human error.

Contractors will be carrying out the work from October 12 to October 23.

All lanes will remain open but there may be minor delays as speeds are restricted through the area.

The Transport Agency apologises for any inconvenience caused and thanks people for their patience during the work.
