Night closures for State Highway 30 in Kopaki

|

Due to ongoing road movement caused by the recent wet weather, State Highway 30 north of the Kopaki Bridge will be closed at night, until further notice.

The closure will be in place between 6pm and 7am each day until further notice, to ensure the safety of road users, as the road surface is uneven and presents a risk to vehicles outside daylight hours.

During the hours the road is closed all vehicles can travel between Te Kuiti and Benneydale via SH3, SH4, Pukerimu Road and Kopaki Road. Heavy vehicles are reminded that the Kopaki Bridge continues to be restricted to vehicles under 6 tonnes at all times.

An initial geotechnical assessment of the site has been completed, and a further assessment will take place as soon as practicable. With rain forecast to continue to fall over the next week, repairs will be planned once the road movement ceases, and weather is more favourable.

Waikato’s roading network has been hit hard by the recent severe weather with slips, drop outs and flooding in a number of locations. With more wet weather forecast crews are closely monitoring the network to ensure the safety of all road users. Notable sites include flooding on SH37, a large slip on SH25 between Wharekaho and Kuaotunu, and flooding on SH25A between Kopu and Hikuai.

People are encouraged to take extra care, watch for hazards on the road, adjust their speed for the environment, and plan for delays to their journeys.

Waka Kotahi thanks road users for their patience and will provide further updates over the coming days.
