Reminder: Plan ahead for SH2 Bayfair to Te Maunga intersection closure this weekend

|

Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency reminds motorists to plan ahead for the closure of SH2 between Bayfair roundabout and Te Maunga intersection from tonight until Monday morning.

This closure is scheduled to take place from approximately 10pm tonight (Friday 2 July) until 5am Monday (5 July). The closure is required to enable construction of the second of Bay Link’s three bridges.

A signposted detour is available via Girven Road, Maranui Street, Sandhurst Drive and the Sandhurst Drive/Mangatawa Interchange. Full detour information is available at: nzta.govt.nz/baylink/temaunga(external link)

For high productivity motor vehicles (HPMV), an alternative detour route is available via Truman Lane, State Highway 29A and either the Takitimu Drive Toll Road or Cambridge then Moffat Road.

Significant delays are anticipated. Motorists are encouraged to allow extra time for travel, use alternative routes or plan travel outside these times.

Contractors will be stationed along the detour route to monitor delays and make adjustments as necessary.

During the closure, 10 reinforced concrete beams (26 metres long and weighing 47 tonne) will be placed across SH2 near Te Maunga intersection by a crane positioned in the middle of the state highway.

Work will take place across both day and night shifts to minimise the duration of the closure. If this work is impacted by weather or other unforeseen issues, it will be carried out on the next available weekend.

Waka Kotahi thanks motorists, local residents and businesses for their patience. We would also like to acknowledge Baypark Events Venue and Tauranga Airport for their work to accommodate this closure around major events and airspace considerations.
