Serious crash on State Highway 2 south of Masterton (road now reopened)

Update 5:15pm: State Highway 2 has reopened near Masterton following a fatal crash near the intersection of South Belt Road earlier today.

Police  have confirmed one person died in the single vehicle crash.

State Highway 2 was closed for approximately four hours -  from 1pm to 5:12pm.

NZTA/Waka Kotahi wants to thank drivers for their patience and cooperation while emergency services and contractors attended this incident.


1.20pm:

State Highway 2 is currently closed south of Masterton between Ngaumutawa Road and Judds Road.

It follows a serious crash near the intersection of South Belt Road. The incident was reported shortly before 1 pm.

Emergency services and contractors are at the scene and the Police Serious Crash Unit is attending.

The closure is likely to last for several hours.

Drivers are asked to avoid the area, follow the instructions of emergency services, and use an alternative route.

Local road detours are available via Ngaumutawa Road and Judds Road. Further updates will be provided when new information is available.
