SH2 between Kotemaori and Putorino now open

|

State Highway 2 between Napier and Wairoa has opened ahead of schedule at 6.30 this morning following an early morning safety assessment.

The stretch of state highway was opened for 3 hours til 8pm yesterday and was closed overnight.

An onsite geotechnical assessment this morning has been carried out, and confirmed no fresh material has come down.

The road will be down to one lane and the slip site has been barricaded.

Barriers at Whirinaki and Wairoa have now been lifted.

There will be traffic management in place, including traffic lights, and a speed restriction.

Waka Kotahi Hawke’s Bay / Tairāwhiti System Manager Martin Colditz says the traffic flow was steady during yesterday closing and he’s expecting a lot of traffic through today.

“Please expect delays and drive to the conditions through the slip site.”
