SH25 Kereta hill, Coromandel overnight closures for urgent road repairs - 1 May update

|

Due to weather delays, resurfacing work on SH25 has been delayed by one night and will start tomorrow Thursday 27 April.

Update 1 May: Due to wet weather, resurfacing work on SH25 at Kereta Hill is postponed this week.

New closure dates will be advised asap. But due to the forecast – work won’t take place next week as resealing requires a period of dry weather.

This information updates the media release below.

Update 26 April: Due to weather delays, resurfacing work on SH25 has been delayed by one night and will start tomorrow Thursday 27 April.

The work will only take place over 6 nights now.

The closure points are from 1090 Thames Coast rd (flat area before Kereta Hill) – through to 713 Manaia Rd (Ohoni Stream bridge).

Update 21 April: Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency advises that State Highway 25 will be closed over seven week nights for urgent work to repair and reseal the road at Kerata hill. Daytime sealing works will also be required.

Contractors need a clear road space to carry out the necessary repairs to the pavement.

As this section of state highway is very narrow, the road will have to be closed for periods overnight to keep everyone safe, in particular the road workers, says Waka Kotahi System Manager for Waikato, Cara Lauder.

“Waka Kotahi understands how vital the Coromandel loop road is, especially while State Highway 25A is closed, however this repair work is essential ahead of winter.

“The total amount of nights the road will be closed is seven, plus three periods of daytime sealing. On the days of sealing, the road will be closed from 11am to 12pm only,” Ms Lauder says.

The overnight closures start from Wednesday 26 April through Thursday 4 May (weeknights only and weather dependant).

The closure hours are between 8pm - 11pm and 12 midnight through to 5am. The road will be open for one hour between 11pm and midnight to allow people through.

“We are very aware of the sacrifices local residents, businesses and communities are having to make at the moment and thank people for their patience while this work is underway,” Ms Lauder says.

Emergency access will be available at all times.
